On April 20th, Yorktown Fire, EMS and Yorktown/County Police were alerted to an aircraft down on the IBM property with unknown further information. Engine 273, Engine 270, Rescue 16 and car 2534 signed on responding. As units were responding, information was updated that there was a light aircraft down on the IBM field at the Pines Bridge Rd access way.
Car 2534 advised 60-control to start out Millwood's rescue as a precaution with this updated information. Shortly there after, 60-Control advised units that it was a small plane, occupied 2 times, with both parties out of the plane. Millwood was then asked to stand-by in quarters.
Car 2534 arrived on scene, established IBM command, and advised that there was a small aircraft on the ground, no fire, and no extrication at this time and that Engine 273 was to advance a precautionary hand line upon arrival on the scene. An Engine from Somers was also asked to stand-by at Yorktown Station 1 while units were operating.
Yorktown Fire crews advanced the handline, assisted EMS in packaging the 2 patients, and assisted PD in creating a secure perimeter around the crash site. Engine 270 and Rescue 16 were placed back into service after the scene was placed under control.
Both patients received minor injuries and were transported to the Medical Center.
Yorktown Fire units picked up around 11:30 that night after the NTSB completed their initial investigation. |
