At 18:06Hrs YHFD Volunteers were dispatched to an address on Kitchawan Rd in the area of IBM for a reported Helicopter down. Car 2532 and Engine 272 responded on the run shortly after dispatch. Car 2532 arrived and reported a large helicopter down in a field on a large farm property with no injuries or fire, and a small fuel leak and held the assignment to Engine 272 only, while EMS evaluated the pilots. With no other hazards present, Car 2532 and Engine 272 stood by to provide lighting for the investigators and cleared the scene at approximately 22:36hrs. Ironically, this was the second incident involving an aircraft this year, on April 20th a small single engine plane crash landed on a field in the rear of the IBM property, a short distance away from this incident.
While units were operating at the aircraft incident, at 18:27hrs a second crew of YHFD Volunteers handled a MVA with Injuries at Kitchawan Rd and Pinesbridge road only a few hundred yards away from the helicopter crash. Rescue-Engine 270 and Car 2536 arrived to find a 2 car MVA with one vehicle rolled an a 2nd vehicle that took a significant impact sending the engine block flying out of the vehicle. YHFD Crews assisted EMS with patient care, handled traffic control and the fluid spill and cleared the scene at 19:28hrs.
