As 2012 came to a close the YHFD finished out the year with the departments 2nd busiest year in its history. The YHFD responded to 650 emergency calls (No Medical calls) for the calendar year 2012, making it once again the busiest All Volunteer Department in the 17th Battalion and one of the busiest All Volunteer departments in Northern Westchester (That does not respond to EMS calls) . The dedicated Volunteers of the YHFD spent thousands of hours training, responding to emergencies, providing fire prevention/public education, and taking part in community events. They are responsible for protecting our 36.2 Square Mile district with over 30,000 residents, businesses, commuters and visitors of not only Yorktown, but also assists surrounding communities as well. These Volunteers save the taxpayers of the Town of Yorktown Millions of Dollars every year.
As always the demand and strain on the YHFD is constantly increasing with that is the need for additional Volunteers to help the town. No experience is necessary and all training and equipment is provided.
