YHFD remains among busiest in Northern Westchester

The official numbers are in.
The YHFD responded to 611 calls for service in 2014 making the YHFD once again the busiest 100% Volunteer Fire Department in Battalion 17, but is also among the busiest of all departments in Northern Westchester County(Battalions 10,12, 13, 16, 17 areas) that are 100% Volunteer and does not respond to EMS calls. Breakdown is as follows Automatic Fire Alarms- 236 Co Alarms- 42 Structural Related fire Calls- 22 Mutual Aid Request (FASTeam, Dive Team, Engine, Tanker, Ladder, etc)- 43 Utility Assist- 78 Smoke Investigations-43 Motor Vehicle Accidents- 78 Vehicle Fires- 14 Haz-Mat Related- 31 Brush/Outside Fire/ Misc- 24
Also, YHFD members spent Thousands of hours training and performing fire prevention and community service details such as the memorial day parade, The Yorktown Street Fair , the 1st Annual Yorktown Emergency Services & truck day, the Annual Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1 Parade & Carnival, and The Annual Yorktown Electric Light Parade.
On December 9th, 2014 a Bond vote was held and passed by 273-49 for the LOSAP change and 167-159 for the Station 2 Renovation/Addition which is very much needed and we appricate the supoport from all that voted.
It is because of the hard work and dedication of our members that are all volunteers whom save the taxpayers of the Town of Yorktown Millions of Dollars every year. These Volunteers are responsible for protecting our 36.2 Square Mile district with over 30,000 residents, businesses, commuters and visitors of not only Yorktown, but also assists surrounding communities as well.
As always the call volume, training requirements and demand on our volunteers continues to rise we are continuously looking for new members to join us.
