Chief of the Department Raymond Nikisher

On Monday, February 22, 2010, the Yorktown Heights Engine Company mourned the loss of Past Chief, Engine Company Life Member, and Past Commissioner of Yorktown Heights Fire District, Raymond Nikisher. Raymond joined the fire company in 1952. In 1954 Firefighter Nikisher temporally traded in his fire gear for some GI gear. Serving in the United States Army from1954 to 1956 when SP3 Raymond Nikisher was honorably discharged. Upon returning to Yorktown from military, Raymond continued his service to the Engine Company and the community. With his training and experience Raymond achieved the rank of Chief of the Department in April of 1973, serving to April 1975. Raymond continued to serve the Yorktown community after being elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners in 1981. He served Yorktown Fire District for 25 years when he retired in 2005. Commissioner Nikisher assisted on many projects that were for the betterment of the firefighter and the district.
