At 07:30 hours YHFD Volunteers were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident on Rt 129 in the area of Underhill Ave. As Multiple YHFD units were responding at 07:31hrs, EMS units came across the radio stating that they were on scene and only needed assistance stabilizing the vehicle. Rescue 16, Rescue Engine-270, Car 2531 and 2533 arrived to find EMS units had already been on the scene for quite some time as they were dispatched by another agency well in advance of any notification of the fire department. A quick size up of the scene concluded that this would be slightly more complicated then first thought.
The vehicle had slide off of the guide rail and using it as a ramp went airborne; rotated, struck a tree approximately 8 feet in the air and slid down it resting against a tree and embankment trapping the driver. Crews from R-16 and RE-270 secured the vehicle with a winch, straps, cribbing, and multiple Paratech Struts. Once the vehicle was stabilized crews cut what they could of the driver and rear passenger doors, and partially removed the roof to create enough space to extricate the patient and transfer him to awaiting EMS crews. After the vehicle was removed by the Towing Company all YHFD Units were returned to service at 09:12 hrs. |
