Today the American flag at Headquarters is flying at half mast, with the flag of the Army below it. This is in honor of Firefighter Joseph Richmond, a member of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1. FF Richmond served as a Private in the 77th Infantry Division, United States Army and was killed in action against enemy forces on this 3rd day of August, 1944 on the island of Guam.

Upon recovering Pvt Richmond, he was found with his Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1 badge on his person.

The Members of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company salute this young man's sacrifice and take pride in honoring his memory.
