On Friday, March 28th at 14:34hrs, Yorktown Heights Fire was dispatched to assist the Lake Mohegan Professional Firefighters Local 2956/Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association at a 10-75 (Working Fire) on Flintlock Way in the Jefferson Village Complex. The incident originated after Westchester County PD Aviation called in a report of smoke and fire coming from a unit in the residential complex. LMFD Car 2261 requested the working fire assignment upon receiving reports of possible trapped occupants and added an Engine from the YHFD in addition to our Firefighter Assist & Search Team (F.A.S.Team) on the 10-75. Car 2532, Engine 272 & Rescue 16 with a dozen Yorktown Heights Volunteer Firefighters responded to fulfill both assignments. As YHFD units were entering the complex. The 2nd Alarm was sounded putting all YHFD resources to work upon arrival. C-2532, R-16, and E-272 operated in the “Delta” exposure unit completing searches and stretching a second hose line to knock down advanced fire conditions extending across the common attic space from the original fire unit. Once the main body of fire was knocked down, YHFD units remained on scene opening up, and performing overhaul with multiple agencies from both Westchester & Putnam Counties until being released from the scene at approximately 17:00hrs. During this incident, over a dozen additional YHFD Volunteers remained in district to cover any additional runs. **Kudos to the USPS Mail Courier for making one impressive rescue prior to FD arrival! “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”. |
