We are only a few days away from the 68th annual Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1 Santa Day Candy Cane Run on Sunday December 15th‼️
As always, we wanted to provide our followers with a few “do’s” ✅and “dont’s” ❌ before Santa 🎅 comes to town. Please visit our website or Facebook page for the complete rundown.
Please don’t:
-Please don’t ❌: run out into the street to meet the moving fire apparatus🚒, wait until you hear the apparatus parking brake engage, and Santa exits the fire truck. This is for your safety.
-Please don’t ❌: stand in your driveway, or in your doorway and expect Santa and our firefighters to stop at your house. (Unless your house is on fire, we’re not stopping.) Unexpected stops cause delays that may lead to less time that other families get to spend with Santa. Please be considerate of others.
-Please don’t ❌: call the firehouse or send us a message on social media and ask us to turn around because you missed Santa. We do our best to accommodate everyone. If you missed Santa, look at the schedule and drive ahead to another stop.
Please do:
-Please do ✅: check all 3 of our routes for your street/area and note that new stops have been added this year and some stops have been removed due to a decrease in activity. (🚨If you do not see your street listed, you may live in another Fire District that carries a Yorktown Heights address)
-Please do✅: band togeher with your neighbors to create a larger block party for the whole neighborhood (big shout out to the crew at Giordano Dr/ Glenrock St🤘pictured below). This event is designed to bring our community together for the holidays! When neighborhoods come together to create 1 big stop, it actually allows 🎅 to see everyone more efficiently.
-Please do ✅: check that you are looking at the 2024 YHFD Santa day routes. Some times and locations have changed from previous years. (We have marked the route images with 2024 routes so they can be shared)
-Please do ✅: follow our Facebook and Instagram page for live updates on Santa’s whereabouts
-Please do ✅: understand that all times are approximate and that the firefighters and fire trucks that are bringing Santa around town are still in service and will answer any emergency calls as they are received, which may affect route times. Santa has been known to help out during fires on previous days which can lead to delaying routes or, possibly even rescheduling depending on the severity of the incident.
- Please do✅: be at your specified route location📍 about 5-10 minutes or more before Santa is scheduled to arrive and dress appropriately for the weather.
-Please do ✅: have your cameras 📸 ready to take any pictures you’d like with Santa and your Yorktown Heights Volunteer Firefighters. Everyone loves a good holiday picture.
-Please do ✅: know that you can bring your dog to your route location (if it’s safe and practical to do so). Santa loves his four legged 🐶🐾friends and might even have a treat 🦴or two for them being such a “good pup” this year.
-Please do ✅: bring enough hot chocolate☕️ and cookies 🍪 to share with your neighbors 😉
-Please do ✅: be merry and have a great time‼️
As always, this is our favorite day of the year, and we can’t wait to see our wonderful neighbors! We look forward to seeing everyone again this year! |
