At approximately 1400hrs today, Yorktown Fire was dispatched to Croton Lake Rd for a reported brush fire.
Engine 272, 274, and Tanker 14 responded on the assignment. Units arrived on scene to find a 200’x100’ area of brush and grass activity burning up a hill towards the house. The fire was contained and extinguished without incident.
Although our area is experiencing a warming and melting of ice and snow, the dry air and steady wind speed quickly dry out grass and low lying vegetation leading to conditions for rapid fire spread.
