I grew up in Yorktown. My father was William George Downing - one of the first members of the company. My grand-father was Jacob Ehmann - another founding member. If anyone has any old photos of them, please forward copies to my e'mail address. I will share with my brother, William (Bill) Franklin Downing. I will always have wonderful memories of the Fireman's Carnival!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to post a special thank you on the message board to all the Members of the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department. On Sat. November 19th, I had a food and coat drive that raised over 680 lbs of food in memory of my brother Vincent a Yorktown resident that passed away. We also collected over 23 bags of clothing and coats for men, women and children. Volunteers such as; Kenny, Jeff and Martin helped me by bringing all of my stuff over to the Fire house to store while I distribute over the next 2 weeks. The Food Bank of Westchester benefited from the first donations 11/20/11 and this past Friday Kenny, Jeff and I spent the morning at the Mohegan Manor Adult Home in Mohegan Lake distributing coats and clothing to the residents. They all were amazed at the generosity of the Yorktown community that donated and wanted to send a special "Thank You" to all of the members of the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department that made the donations possible. Thank you all so very much! I truly appreciate the help. Paula
It's not too late to donate! I still need Adults Coats/Clothing for men and women. It is particulary important to get sizes that are Large, XL and XXL. I will be collecting indefinitely so if you see this, just let Kenny know.

I just wanted to take this time to thank the nice strong young men who helped save the town during all the recent weather-related disasters. If it wasn’t for you brave young men, many people would not be here today. I believe I can speak on behalf of the entire Town of Yorktown that we appreciate everything you do.
We just got the mutual aid call for tanker 16 to go to your structure fire on underhill. it arrived moments ago...good luck guys.

On the 16th there was a structure fire at imperial wok, and one of your stations F.A.S.T team was dispatched, around 3:30 am.. We were out of our house which is out of 118, and by 3:38 your F.A.S.T team was already approaching us at the traffic light (mid 118)..That is great response time..& Great job with the website. Should be proud.
Very great fire department.(Stations)

Hello. Our uncle is George Lewis. We all live in Michigan. You would not believe all my family who wears Yorktown Heights T-shirts. You would think we live there. Also, Benny Kobylanski was a volunteer, many moons ago, and tells us the best damn stories, you would think he still does it. He is going to be 89 in Feb and has never forgotten.

I just dropped my motherinlaw at Mt. Kisco Country Club. I took advantage of the oppertunity to search for one of my favorite pieces of fire apparatus. Your reserve Seagrave ladder. I've seen it on FDNY TRUCKS many times. I was in Ladder Co. 2 of the Valley Stream FD. We had a very similar rig. 1964 midship mount 85' ladder. Your ladder is very similar. I peeked in the windows at Station 2 but couldn't see her. Is she still with your dept.? If not where has she gone? I hope to see her in person someday. Thanks, Bob Obrien
